Route Length:
2 Day Ride: 60, 75 and 100 miles Saturday and/or Sunday
1 Day Ride: 30 and 50 miles Sunday only
Route Description: This out and back route is designed to take you through the gently rolling hills of Mid Michigan. The route goes along quiet country roads and pass through the towns of Gaines, Byron, Oak Grove and Williamston. Two day riders will spend the night at Michigan State University and have an opportunity to enjoy the town of East Lansing. On Sunday participants will head back along the same roads to finish at Lake Fenton High School. One day riders (Sunday only) will start and finish at Lake Fenton High School and their route will join in with those cyclists returning from East Lansing. All participants are welcomed back to Lake Fenton High School on Sunday afternoon with a BBQ celebration in their honor.
Overview of Amateur Radio assignments and requirements:
SAG VEHICLE (Support and Guidance) (Two-day assignment)
MS will supply the vehicle, and MS personnel will drive. We will need about 12 amateurs for this mobile assignment, which includes an overnight stay at MSU. Dinner, lodging and breakfast will be provided. This assignment requires communications skills, including the ability to monitor a net, receive to traffic directed to your station and pass traffic originated by your station. Equipment requirements are a Mobile radio with 25Watts VHF/UHF minimum Also magnetic-mount antenna and power cable suitable to attach quickly to any vehicle. APRS tracking equipment is STRONGLY desired. Hand held VHF/UHF radio with enough battery for the day.
MED VEHICLE (Two-day assignment)
MS will supply the vehicle, and MS personnel will drive. We will need about 10 amateurs for this mobile assignment, which includes an overnight stay at MSU. Dinner, lodging and breakfast will be provided. This is a high-visibility assignment that requires you to have excellent people and communications skills, including the ability to monitor several conversations, track dynamic situations and convey summary information to MS Staff personnel. Equipment requirements are a Mobile radio with 25Watts VHF/UHF minimum Also magnetic-mount antenna and power cable suitable to attach quickly to any vehicle. Hand held VHF/UHF radio with enough battery for the day.
REST STOP (One-day assignment)
You will provide your own transportation to and from the Rest Stop. We will need about 10 amateurs on Saturday and 12 on Sunday for fixed operation. You may participate either or both days. Equipment requirements are a UHF , 15Watts+ transceiver with antenna. Dual-Band Radio is recommended for this assignment. Mobile equipment in your personal vehicle will be acceptable. Note that commercial power is not available; you must be able to operate in a “field” situation.
